Install the free version and press the trial button on the plugin page. Every Pro feature unlocks for 7 days, with no card and no automatic renewal. When it ends the portal keeps working in the free version and every Pro setting you configured stays stored, ready to switch back on with a licence. The trial can be used once per site.
No. There is no fee per user, no storage fee and no metered traffic: the files sit in the Drive you already pay for, and they are served by the site you already host. Google Cloud is used only to create the service account, which is free, and the Drive API calls this plugin makes stay inside the free quota by a wide margin.
There is also nothing on our side that has to be renewed with Google. Plugins that read a Drive through "Sign in with Google" need a restricted scope, which brings a verification and a yearly security assessment paid by the developer: that is a recurring cost, and recurring costs end up in a price. The service account model has none of it.
The site falls back to the free version: one rule, list view, no search or previews. Documents keep being served, nothing is deleted, and the moment you renew everything comes back exactly as you left it.
Yes. Deactivate it from the plugin page on the old site and the seat is freed immediately, ready to be used somewhere else. If the old site is already gone, write to us and we free it from our side.
Technically yes: each installation is counted separately, so a staging copy is a second site. If you are testing a migration, tell us and we will not count it against your plan.

Studio for up to five client sites, Agency for up to fifty. Each client site uses its own Google Cloud project and its own service account, so nothing is shared between them. If you need more than fifty seats, write to us and we will quote it.
